A comprehensive, dual-sector doctoral-awarding institution, TUD combines the academic excellence of a traditional university with professional, career-oriented learning, preparing graduates for productive leadership and entrepreneurial roles. There are 20,000 students registered in TUD, and over 2000 members of staff. Nearly 20% of the student body comes from outside Ireland.

The College of Business at TUD is a significant academic unit of organisation in the Institute, and in terms of undergraduate students (4,000), postgraduate students (1,000), lifelong learning activity, executive education and engagement with the corporate sector, it is the largest Business School on the island of Ireland. The College of Business is accredited by AMBA and ranked a 3 Palm business school by Eduniversal, denoting it as a business school with international influence.
TUD has a strong commitment to the development and support of the knowledge economy and a proactive approach to building successful links with industry. This commitment is demonstrated through extensive business incubation and start-up support programmes, high levels of student engagement in entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurship and innovation programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education levels.
