UAD is located in Yogyakarta. With its motto of Moral and Intellectual Integrity, it is one of the leading private universities in Indonesia, and was rated as one of the Top 50 Promising University by Indonesia Higher Education Directory in 2011. Since its establishment in 1960, the University, which is a further development of the Institute of Teacher Training and Education Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, has sustained a strong tradition of academic integrity and gained an excellent reputation for its educational programmes, research and also community services.
At international level, UAD is collaborating with partner universities in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia, Netherlands, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, South Korea, UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, and India. Since 2010, UAD is one of 12 universities in Indonesia that belongs to the ASEAN International Mobility for Students programme.
UAD has more than 304 staffs and 419 lecturers. It has approx. 23.000 students, including 450 postgraduate students and more than 150 students of different nationalities currently studying on a short- and long-term basis. Many students from different countries come to UAD to enrol for short courses such as Indonesian language and culture study, and summer camp programme.
In 2016, UAD ranked 17th in the country, 2nd in the province and 2726th in the world, based on Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. A wide range of research has been undertaken by UAD academicians with publication in high impact refereed journals such as the Telkomnika.
UAD works with local, regional, national and transnational networks to develop a medium-term business development strategy and operational programme called UAD Partnership Strategy programme (UAD-PS). UAD-PS develops new ways of teaching and training in view on informing public policy. Stakeholders of UAD-PS include local government unit, civil society, universities, schools, alumni, as well as some other national partners. It’s newly formed GITA Erasmus+ funded Growth Hub “KUBI” opened in November 2018.
The Muhammadiyah Foundation also focuses on education and health. Muhammadiyah Foundation has approximately 117 Higher Education Institutions all over Indonesia and the number of student body reaches 10% of the total student body number in the country. Muhammadiyah also has kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, and hospitals/healthcare centres and can thus serve as a channel for dissemination.
