The University of Innsbruck (UIBK) is western Austria’s largest institution of higher education and research, and covers a broad range of teaching and research areas. It is organised across 16 faculties, 79 departments, and 41 research platforms and centres. More than 28,000 Students study at UIBK and 4,500 staff are employed.

In the past 10 years, UIBK has coordinated more than 40 EU projects; and taken part in more than 100 FP7-projects (already coordinating two H2020 projects). In 2014, the UIBK was carrying out more than 1,000 projects and had third party funding of €49m. UIBK’s administrative staff, especially the project service office (research support), therefore has considerable experience in supporting projects of the EU Framework Programme.

In addition, the ‘project.service.office’ of UIBK has developed a wide range of services, acting as a one stop shop for researchers. Experts provide continuous support to obtain funding for ideas, protect valuable IP and commercialize research results.

Recently the UIBK founded, as one of the first universities in Europe, the ‘Transfercenter for Science, Economy and Society’, which is a dedicated unit dealing not only with industry collaboration, knowledge transfer to society, spin off support, and equity management, but also alumni work and career services.

UIBK is also owner of a University holding, which has shares in ten commercial spin offs and implemented in October 2016, the InnCubator’, and entrepreneurship centre, which is run together with the chamber of commerce on the premises of their training centre. The ‘InnCubator’ offers co-working spaces, an incubation programme, as well as a large ‘makers’ space’ for easy prototyping.
